About the Club

NYP Tri Club is a triathlon and multi-sports club. The club gathers a diverse group of athletes of all profiles, origin, age, gender and competitive levels.

A committee of volunteers runs the club. Membership is all-inclusive and caters for to the full range of beginner, social, and competitive athletes who enjoy helping promote the healthy lifestyle of the sport of Triathlon.

The club’s strengths in open water swimming are recognised and members who only want to take part in open water swimming are encouraged to join and take part at the level of their choosing.

Many of the members have completed triathlons from sprint distance to the ironman level and have raced competitively in swimming, cycling and/or running and act as mentors to other members.

The club organises multi-sport coaching events. The website and social media update members on training days, group workouts, training articles and social get-togethers.

NYP Tri is registered with, and adheres to the rules, recommendations and guidelines of British Triathlon.

Swim

As well as regular, free swimming in the Ripon Racecourse lake, we offer coaching sessions at Ripon and open water training at the lake.

Bike

We meet on Sundays for group social rides.

Run

We meet on Thursday evenings for group running sessions.

Club activities

  • Yoga

    Yoga

    Triathlon training requires repetitive movement that creates imbalances in the body.  Practices like yoga help balance strength and flexibility to ward off injury and help you recover faster.

  • Paddle boarding

    Paddle boarding

    2017 saw several days out with members enjoying the fast growing and fun water sport of Stand Up Paddle Boarding at Ellerton Lake.  Sessions included tuition, board hire and equipment hire (for anybody without wet suits.  Swimming and picnicking were also involved.

  • Velodrome

    Velodrome

    The club organises at least one visit to the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre in Manchester each year.  The Velodrome was Britain’s first indoor Olympic cycling track, and since it opened in 1994, has become one of the World’s finest and fastest board tracks.

  • Club weekends

    Club weekends

    We occasionally arrange for weekends away – usually around an Open Water swim in the Lake district, or a popular triathlon – where members can meet either over a meal or a BBQ to compare notes on the days events and future plans.

  • Massage

    Massage

    We are pleased to have secured Sheila Illingworth as our club masseur. Sheila is a former middle distance runner having competed at the Commonwealth Games for GB in 1990, she has a great understanding of run injuries and benefit of massaging to prevent injury and aid performance.   • Duathlons

    Duathlons

    The club is now in its third year of organising duathlons.  These popular mid week events, all centred on Ripon Racecourse and the surrounding roads, provide early season fitness building and skills sharpening.  See the calendar for details.
